The UFCW Local 881 Charitable Foundation scholarships are awarded to members of Local 881 or their dependent children. Winners are selected based on academic achievement, career goals, leadership, and a demonstrated understanding of the value of Union Membership. Judges consist of an independent panel of labor leaders, educators, civic leaders, and/or public officials.
All applications must include the following:
*If applicant graduated from high school prior to 2017, a copy of his or her diploma can be submitted if transcripts
are unavailable. Failure to complete any part of the application will remove it from consideration.
Amounts range from $1,000 to $4,000. These one-time cash awards are for study
beginning in the Fall of 2022.
A complete application must be postmarked on or before Friday, February 28, 2022.
Applications postmarked after this deadline will not be considered.
Deadline for the UFCW Local 881 Charitable Foundation Scholarship for 2023 has passed. Application for 2024 Scholarship will be available in Fall of 2023.
This is a competitive scholarship available to Union members and their children. Applicants are evaluated according to academic ability, social awareness, financial need, and appreciation of labor. A GPA of 3.0 or higher is recommended. The required essay can account for up to half your total score. Applicants are judged by a committee of impartial post-secondary educators.
Amounts range from $500 to $4,000. These one-time cash awards are for study beginning in the Fall of 2022. Students may re-apply each year.
A complete application must be received on or before 12:00 pm (EST) on Sunday, January 31, 2022. Late
applications will not be considered.
Deadline for the Union Plus (AFL-CIO) Scholarship for 2023 has passed. Application for 2024 Scholarship will be available in Fall of 2023.
CFL Scholarships are awarded to high school seniors. The applicant or their parent must be a Union Member. The applicant must choose to enter either the Random Drawing or the Academic Competition.
Scholarship Award Amounts:
10 scholarships are awarded to high school seniors valued at $2,000 each.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, applications will only be accepted electronically. Completed applications must be received by the Chicago Federation of Labor by 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022. Either the applicant or the applicant’s parent must be a member in good standing of Local 881 of a CFL-affiliated Union.

Deadline for the Chicago Federation of Labor (CFL) William A. Lee Memorial Scholarship for 2023 has passed. Application for 2024 Scholarship will be available in Fall of 2023.
The scholarships are limited to any UFCW member who has been active since January 1, 2021. The children and/or dependents of active members are also eligible to apply if they are unmarried and under the age of 20 on May 31, 2022.
In 2022, the UFCW Charity Foundation will award several Scholarships, up to $8,000 each. Scholarship recipients will receive annual payments of $2,000 for each year they are enrolled in an accredited college or university as a non-probationary student for up to four years.
