Walmart workers are risking their livelihoods to speak out for working families. Instead of listening to workers and respecting their rights, Walmart is illegally intimidating, threatening, and even firing workers. We believe the number one threat to the livelihoods of Local 881 members is the continued expansion and growth of Walmart.
Walmart is built on a business model of low wages, minimal benefits, and stressful working conditions. Walmart has set a very low standard for the retail industry and it undercuts everything you and your co-workers have fought for through the collective bargaining process. It is critical that Local 881 members support Our Walmart workers in their efforts to change the way that Walmart operates and to hold the world's largest retailer accountable.
We want Walmart to own up to its position as the largest employer in the country and stop creating an economy that forces workers to take jobs that are unstable and pay less than what they need. Walmart and the Walton family can afford to be leaders in creating good jobs, instead of being a driver of low-paid, part-time jobs with unpredictable schedules.
UFCW and OUR Walmart have the purpose of helping Wal-Mart employees as individuals or groups in their dealings with Wal-Mart over labor rights and standards and their efforts to have Wal-Mart publically commit to adhering to labor rights and standards. UFCW and OUR Walmart have no intent to have Walmart recognize or bargain with UFCW or OUR Walmart as the representative of Walmart employees.
