2012 Local 881 UFCW Scholarship Program

Union Plus Scholarship Program
Online application
Application deadline: January 31, 2012. Amounts range from $500-$4,000, and are one-time cash awards are for study beginning in the fall of 2012.
This is a competitive scholarship, and applicants are evaluated according to academic ability, social awareness, financial need and appreciation of labor. A GPA of 3.0 or higher is recommended.
Current and retired members of unions participating in any Union Plus program, their spouses and their dependent children (as defined by IRS regulations). Grandchildren are not eligible unless a legal dependent (as defined by IRS regulations). At least one year of continuous union membership by the applicant, applicant's spouse or parent (if applicant is a dependent). The one year membership minimum must be satisfied by May 31, 2012.
The applicant must be accepted into a U.S. accredited college or university, community college, technical or trade school at the time the award is issued. Awards must be used for the 2012 - 2013 school year.
Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible.
Scholarship applications are judged by a committee of impartial post-secondary educators.
2012 UFCW International Scholarship Program
The UFCW International Union will award at least six scholarships worth up to $8,000 each over four years. The UFCW will accept applications online between January 16, 2012 — April 16, 2012. 2012 Chicago Federation of Labor Scholarship
The Chicago Federation of Labor will offer five (5) academic-based scholarships and five (5) random-drawing scholarships in the amount of $2,000 to students graduating from a Chicago or suburban high school. Students may apply in only one of the two categories. Students or their parents must belong to a Union affiliated with the Chicago Federation of Labor (this includes Local 881 UFCW).
