About the Diseases
Leukemia, Lymphoma, and Myeloma are cancers that originate in the bone marrow and lymphatic tissues. Cancers have two features in common: cells that are abnormal because of altered DNA, and cells that accumulate in excessive amounts. All of these cancers are considered to be related because they involve the uncontrolled growth of cells with related functions and origins. The diseases result from an acquired genetic injury to the DNA of a single cell, which becomes abnormal (malignant) and multiplies continuously. The accumulation of malignant cells interferes with the body's production of healthy blood cells and makes the body unable to protect itself against infection. For more information on these diseases, please visit the LLS website at: www.leukemia.org.
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the OFFICIAL charity of the UFCW, a relationship that began in 1983. Since 1983, the UFCW and its' members have raised over $20 million dollars, with every penny going to research. Each year the Local 881 holds a golf outing to raise money for LLS. All of the proceeds that are raised each year go directly towards funding the fight to find a cure to both of these diseases.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! We encourage you to make a donation to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through Local 881. Local 881 has an exclusive agreement with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, to ensure that every penny raised by Local 881 members goes directly towards funding research to finding cures for these diseases.
